My Word for 2009 – SEEK

I remember reading about the ‘one word concept’ from Ali Edwards last year, or maybe it was the year before that. But, that was as far as I took it, reading about it. This year, I am going to run with it. This is an explanation from Ali’s blog:

The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, “A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.”

Also from that same newsletter:

Can you identify a single word that sums up what you want for yourself in 2009?

It can be something tangible or intangible. It could be a thought or a feeling or an emotion. It can be singular or plural. The key is to find something that has personal meaning for you. This is not your mother’s word or your spouse’s word or your child’s word – this is YOUR word.

One little word can have big meaning in your life if you allow yourself to be open to the possibilities. And here’s one thing that is totally interesting: sometimes a word will pop into your brain and it will not make any sense to you right now. Give it some time. Let it percolate a bit. I have often found that our hearts speak to us in very unique ways. Maybe this is a word you need to hear but just aren’t ready for it yet. Again, be open to the possibilities.

So anyway, the word I have chosen is Seek. There are three parts interwoven into my choice of words. First, I am looking forward to a new and improved ME in the new year. I want to get healthy (translate: lose weight), I want a new hairstyle, fingernails long enough to paint, and smooth clear skin. Another reason I chose my word is that I long for harmony in our home. I want the twins to get along better. I want them to appreciate each other as a built-in playmate and not a punching bag. I want them to concentrate on taking care of their own things, like their toys and everyday items like backpacks, coats, shoes etc. This will segue nicely into helping us keep an organized home which will help with the aura of harmony I am going for! Finally the third part for my choice of word is to seek spirituality. I want to really connect at Asbury. The church is so large that I think one could attend services for 6 months and not go beyond the handshake and “how do you do” part at the beginning of the service. So, we started going to Sunday school, and we also went to the Wed. night dinner. It was wonderful. A home cooked meal that I didn’t have to prepare myself, and the whole family can eat for $20! We cannot eat at McDonald’s for that! I also want to build on my spiritual relationship with God. Asbury started a program thing where you can download a daily reading plan to read the whole Bible in one year. That sounds like a great goal. I can dedicate 15 minutes each day to reading the Bible to grow as a Christian. I am already 8 days late though. Hmmmm, at 15 minutes each day, I could easily catch up in 2 hours!

Anyway, Seek is my word – What is yours?

It’s official – We’re Methodist

After visiting different churches in Madison we finally decided to make it official – we joined Asbury Sunday.  We had been talking about it for a while – it just seems to be the best fit for us.  They have so much to offer especially for children and youth.  The twins both know kids who go there, and Chace does too.  I think that makes a huge difference to start with.  We are going to have to leave earlier than usual now though because we can no longer park in Visitor Parking  :roll   After we got home we were looking through the paperwork they gave us about all the different Sunday school classes.  I was trying to figure out which one would be best for Todd and me to go to.  Caeden climbed up in my lap and started looking at the pamphlet.  He read one of the class descriptions that said that it was for middle aged adults, the name of the class was Open Door.  He asked if it was for old people who couldn’t reach the door knob.  I just cracked up – gotta love that kid!
