Questions That Haunt Me

February 24th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to “put your two cents in”… but it’s only a ” penny for your thoughts”? Where’s that extra penny going?

Once you’re in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box ?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they “slept like a baby ” when babies wake up like every two hours?

Why are you IN a movie, but you’re ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change?
They’re going to see you naked anyway.

Why is “bra” singular and “panties” plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat ?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

If the professor on Gilligan’s Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can’t he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They’re both dogs!

If Wile E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn’t he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from
morons?

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it’s outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it’s in your A… butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

I got this in an email and thought it was too funny not to pass on.

Operation Nice

February 23rd, 2009 -- Posted in Miscellaneous | No Comments »

I found this cool site on my friend Terri’s blog It is a blog all about Being Nice – Celebrating Niceness, Random Acts of Kindness, etc. Here is the intro to the blog:

Don’t you love it when people go out of their way to be nice? Like when someone waits to hold the door for you. Or when a stranger waves you into a line a traffic. Or even when a coworker shoots you a friendly smile along with a “have a nice day.” If everyone was a little bit nicer to the folks they encountered each day, perhaps the world would be a more pleasant place. Operation NICE was initiated to remind you that a little NICE goes a long way.

Girl Scouts Thinking Day

February 22nd, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

On Saturday we went to Asbury for the Girl Scouts Thinking Day event.  It was great.  We had no idea what to expect since this is our first year.  It was a lot like Christmas Around the World that the Cub Scouts did in December.  Each Girl Scout troop chooses a country then sets up a table with food, trinkets or decorations from their country.  We did not choose a country, because again, we didn’t know what to do.  Next year we will be prepared!

The Bedazzler

February 20th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

Lael has been wanting the Bedazzler for quite a while now. She is such a sucker for those As Seen on TV commercials. It doesn’t matter what it is, if they say we need it, then surely it is true!! 19.95? of course that is a great price Mom – look! they are gonna double the offer FOR FREE!!!!!!

Anyway, she really, really wanted the Bedazzler. So, Santa found a gadget that works exactly the Bedazzler only without the 19.95 price tag – Hooray for the elves!

She brought it out soon after Christmas, when we got back home and started searching her room for something to transform. I was already busy doing something, I can’t remember what now, a month later. So, Lael puts on her best sweet daughter voice and face to ask Daddy to help. Of course he is thrilled to help – working with tiny gems and studs is any man’s dream, right? Lael’s version of help though is she is the manager, you are the underling, and she directs the process down to every last detail. Here is a photo of the two of them ‘working’ on the hat, and then one of Lael modeling the hat.

Todd’s orchid

February 19th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

Well, actually I think it is technically mine!! He got it for me for either my birthday or Mother’s Day last year. Iget confused because they are so close together. Anyway, it was beautiful when I got it, the blooms were gorgeous. But, as with all living things – they must die. ok, maybe plants do not actually die, (unless you kill it by neglect or something) but you know what I mean. I have always thought of orchids as very exotic, hard to grow plants. Apparently that is not the case – they bloom over and over again with the proper care. After the last flower dropped from the original bloom, Todd took it upon himself to care for the orchid. He re-potted it and then babied it all summer long. He talked to it, he rotated the pot, he clipped the stem to the stake as it grew, he watered it, he stroked the leaves, I will be honest, I was beginning to get jealous, J/K, LOL!!! Then ~voila~ new flower buds formed. There are 5 buds, and 3 of them have bloomed. They are beautiful!!!

Gifts for Baby Trey

February 18th, 2009 -- Posted in Gift Albums, Scrapbooking | No Comments »

I forgot I never posted this after we went to visit our beautiful new nephew!
I was trying to come up with different ideas for a gift for baby Trey. Of course all new babies need diapers, lotions, shampoo, and all the other baby paraphernalia. Not to mention the big stuff if this is the first baby. But, I wanted to do something a little more personal. So, I came up with the idea of making personalized onesies. I found some plain white long sleeved ones at TJ Maxx and snagged them. Looking back, I should have bought all they had!! Anyway, I bought some transfer paper at Hobby Lobby, then set about creating some personalized designs for the onesies. That was the easy part. The hard part was getting it to print correctly, LOL! I actually wasted 6 sheets before I got it right. Oh well, live and learn. Hopefully, I will remember the next time I try this project. I also found a 3-panel accordian style frame thingy at Tuesday Morning. I did buy several of those because they were such a great price. I altered it and personalized it and left some space for pictures. Ta-Da – Unique and personalized Baby Gifts!

More Sick Kids

February 11th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

I thought Caeden had escaped! Lael was out last week, Tuesday – Thursday, with strep throat. Chace was out Friday. Then everyone seemed fine over the weekend and early this week. But, then last night Caeden woke up with a fever. Todd had to go in to work at 4:00 am (I told him that was criminal, nobody should see more than one 4:00 on a clock!) Anyway, so I took Caeden gave him some meds and we slept in the den, Caeden in his fave spot (the wedge) and me on the couch. Then today, I called the doctor and got him an appointment. He really has not acted like he felt bad, and only has a slight fever. The doctor came in, listened to his chest because Caeden has had a bit of a bad cough. Chest clear, ears clear but wants to swab his throat because of Lael having it already. He starts to swab and Caeden has a fit!! He jerks his head away and start yelling “I don’t like that! That hurts!!” and crying. That is the reaction I expected from Lael last week, she just teared up, but didn’t really cry. The doctor didn’t think he got a good swab so he had to do it again. It was not a pleasant time to be in the exam room!! He gets the swab, runs the test and comes back and says it is positive. Hmmm, not what I expected! Oh well, we get an antiotic and the doctor reminds me that Publix will fill Amoxicillin for free. Yay! So, we have it sent there and Todd picked it up on his way home from work. Publix rocks! I love that grocery store! Ever since we were living in Tuscaloosa and it was less than 5 minutes from Lynda’s house which made it ‘oh so convenient’ I have been hooked. Anyway, if you are not in the know {ahem, Aimee!} about the FREE antibiotics at Publix, here is a link.

Baseball Banquet

February 10th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

Last night was the Baseball Banquet.  Chace was not thrilled with the idea of having the twins present.  I was on the fence about it.  It was a sit-down dinner and there would not be any other children near their age.  I didn’t realize that Todd and I were that much younger than most parents of 13 yr. olds until we started going to events at the middle school level.  At the baseball games, there are not really any other children for the twins to play with.  Lucky they have each other, I suppose, even though they are arguing over whose turn it is to race along the bleachers.  Anyway, given a choice, Chace would rather the twins did not attend the banquet.  So, I talked it over with Aimee, and she agreed and then also agreed to watch the twins, gotta love friends who give advice and offer babysitting services as well!  When we dropped the twins off I asked Aimee if she could get a picture of us and Chace.  However, as soon as she got the camera ready, Lael leaps into the picture.  Ok, that’s fine – then Caeden has to get into it.  Finally, I get her to snap one of just us with Chace.  By this time, Chace has had enough – it is also the first time Chris had seen Chace since he got about 3 lbs of hair cut off, so he had to be ready for some comments about that.  That was just the start though.  At the Banquet, the coach always does what he calls the Losers Club.  It works like the “You might be a Redneck” jokes.  He would flash pictures of kids doing goofy things and then say they might be a loser if……..All in fun and games, of course.  When he started, Todd said that he was sure to get Chace for his hair.  Sure enough, coach says, You might be a loser if you ever get confused with a poodle.  Then they flash a picture of a poodle next to one of Chace with all of his curly/scary hair glory.  It was hysterical!  Then they made him come up and stand next to the screen to see the vast difference a haircut makes.

Some cards

February 9th, 2009 -- Posted in Cards, Scrapbooking | No Comments »

My friend Connie asked if I would be interested in creating some invitations for her and she would PAY me! whoo-hoo! yes, I could do that. The hard part was coming up with a price. Anyway, I created a few different designs for her to choose from, that is the first picture. The one she chose is not pictured, though. I forgot to take a picture before I finished them! Oh well, it was fabulous, trust me!!! The other picture is some cards I made with some of the leftover paper. It is nice to have handmade cards handy for those last minute gifts!!

Busy Saturday

February 7th, 2009 -- Posted in Life at the Anderson's | No Comments »

This is the first Saturday kicking off our Busy Season……..otherwise known as Baseball Season. Chace had a Intra-Squad game today, supposed to start at 10:00. Of course that did not happen, it was more like closer to 11:00. There were no umpires or anything, mostly informal, just to get the kids ready. But, the coaches kept slowing the game down by correcting the player’s actions. So annoying, but necessary I suppose. Todd had packed a bag with snacks and drinks for the kids, because we knew the concession stand wasn’t going to be open. We had only been there about 10 minutes when Lael declares that she is hungry. She starts rummaging for a snack, and then Caeden sees what she is doing, so he does the same. That kept them happy for about 15 minutes. I had packed a bag with some toys, like bouncy balls, frisbees, jump ropes etc. So, they pulled out some things from there and went back behind the bleachers to play. This was good – we could watch the game, they were happy playing – Yay! All of sudden I hear the most awful screeching sound….I whip my head around and it’s Lael, running towards me. She had gotten into an ant bed. I don’t know how she managed it, but the ants were crawling all over hands and up her arms. eeeeekkk! We manage to get them all off her and she actually only has 2 bites. whew, but she is still crying. {Note to self – add After-Bite/Burn stick to bag} The game is still dragging on…..more snacks and drinks…….Finally it is over – and the coach gathers all the boys in the middle of the infield for a chat. What?!?!? Didn’t he handle all of that during the game, as they made the mistakes he was now going over???? He kept them there for nearly another 1/2 hour. Grrrrrr!

Caeden and Todd had to go to the Pinewood Derby. The weigh-in was from 12-2, with the races starting at 2:30. By the time we got home it was about 1:30, so Todd and Caeden cram some lunch down their throats and head off to Asbury. They arrive in plenty of time, thank goodness and get the car weighed. Everything is good, Caeden is proud of his car. They designed it to look like a Wii remote, and it actually looks remarkably close, just a bit bigger. They start the races, and the car is not the fastest. That is ok though because it was chosen to move on to the District Level because of the design! Caeden was so excited – he gets to go to the mall on March 7th for the next level. So cool!!!
